OUR HISTORY
AstaReal was the first in the world to succeed in commercially culturing Haematococcus pluvialis algae as a source of natural astaxanthin. Since then we have been a pioneer in astaxanthin for over 20 years, and we have continued our R&D to explore its potential in daily health management, prevention and therapy.
Our History

1946
The Fuji Chemical Group, a parent company of the AstaReal Group, established in Toyama, Japan. -
1994
BioCaroten AB, a bio venture from Uppsala University, Sweden (later acquired by AstaReal) succeeded in commercial cultivation of astaxanthin algae for the first time in the world. -
1995
Launched the world’s first natural astaxanthin supplement, Astaxin. -
1999
Began cultivation of astaxanthin algae in Hawaii, the U.S. (Closed in 2011.) -
2004
Established a BtoB sales office in New Jersey, the U.S. -
2010
Obtained the FDA-recognized GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status in the U.S. verifying the safety of AstaReal® astaxanthin as a food ingredient. -
2014
Established a second production facility in Washington State, the U.S. -
2015
Established BtoB and retail sales offices in Singapore. -
2016
Established BtoB sales offices in India and Australia.
